Acupuncture is a safe and effective natural therapy that is used to awaken the body’s natural processes to ease pain and encourage healing. It is one of the foundations of the Chinese Medicine. It involves inserting extremely fine, sterile, single use needles into specific points in the body. These points have been found effective in relieving pain or for the treatment of specific health issues.
An acupuncture treatment generally involves multiple therapies and can include elements of tui na (say: tweyna) massage, cupping, gua sha (scraping massage with a softly carved tool such as jade stone) or moxibustion (burning of the dried mugwort plant) as well as acupuncture needles. Multiple sessions are needed to address the issue well and encourage healing.
Acupuncture is based on the concept of Qi that flows through channels along the human body. Qi is not well defined but it can roughly be related to air you breathe, dynamic exchange of various gases produced in the body (such as nitric oxide and carbon dioxide), as well as nutrients carried by blood. These pathways are correlated both with the vascular and nervous systems. They are interconnected with the internal organs at a deeper level.
The insertion of needles at the appropriate locations acts to restore balance and helps the body to return to homeostasis. Acupuncture adjusts the flow blood in the body leading it to areas where it is deficient and draining it where it is excessive. In this way, acupuncture restores the harmonious balance of Body and Mind.
Stimulation of the peripheral nerves in the skin causes a cascade of physiological changes. Acupuncture stimulates chemicals, hormones and neurotransmitters which are released by the brain and organs to influence the self-regulating systems of the body. Many points lie in the close neighborhoud of improtant nerves which regulate hypothalamus. Used primarily for pain relief it increases the body’s natural pain killers releasing endorphin and serotonin in the pathways of spinal cord and brain.

“I have had two sessions with Ela so far, which involved a detailed chat about my health and my medical issues, a relaxing and soothing massage followed by acupuncture. Ela is very welcoming and professional, and was incredibly informative, she talked me through the process and why it works the way it does. She also gave me some really useful information on some herbal remedies for me to try out at home. I certainly feel that I benefited from the sessions, and have already recommended her to friends of mine.”
“I was recommended to see Ela by a friend for a chest pain I was experiencing. After the Tuina massage I instantly felt more open and positive almost like there was also an emotional release. My chest pain has gone and the whole experience was lovely. Ela was kind yet professional and intuitively knew what to do with my body after me explaining my symptoms. ”
“Really friendly lovely lady. Listened to my issues with my back + shoulders, and she treated me accordingly. She really worked on the areas she could feel were bad. I feel that it has been a beneficial treatment for my health problems and that her advice was sound.”
“I felt listened to. It was very holistic. I was given some good common-sense health advice. Ela was very professional but friendly. I felt that she knew her treatment very well and practiced it confidently. This made me feel confident as well.”
